A big thank you to everyone who made yesterdays event such a big success including mother nature who excelled herself once again bathing Yorkshire in sunshine. You can find the results from the 2018 event HERE. See you all next year when hopefully we will be back to being a triathlon again!
Unfortunately this year our annual event the Ilkley Triathlon has fallen foul to over running building work at the Ilkley Lido. So instead this year we are running the event as a duathlon. Start times have been released and are available on the link below. Ilkley Duathlon 2018 Start Times
Unfortunately due to an unforeseen problem at the Brownlee Centre this weekend the track is closed and all bookings have had to be cancelled. This affect our junior session on Saturday which moves to the Richard Dunne Centre, however the Duathlon has had to be cancelled. We are sorry for the late notice but the issue is out of our control.
Last night the club held a social evening at our open water swimming venue of Otley lake. The weather was the best we’ve ever had it and the water was 23.8. This meant that the majority of our members ditched their neoprene an swam in the lovely fresh water without a wet suit. Huge thanks have to go to Linda, Rachel, Tina and all other “Ham and Egg” ladies who cooked for around 100 people and put on a simply fabulous and delicious spread. They really did the club proud.
This weekend saw the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds event take place in Roundhay park and the centre of Leeds over the weekend. Of course there was a huge number of our members taking part in all of the events from the junior, youth and Go Tri events on Saturday to the Sprint & standard on Sunday. After the age group races it was time to sit back and watch the pros show everyone how its done. The plaudits have come in for the way the city came out to support all the athletes – we’ll happily take a small piece of credit for that!
The club features in an article about what makes the location we are lucky to live in, so great for triathlon! Come and get involved. You can read it here. https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/why-leeds-is-a-world-class-location-for-triathlon-and-how-to-get-involved-1-9194372
Yesterday the club hosted a duathlon race at the Brownlee Centre in North Leeds. It was part of the junior race series for the Yorkshire region. 250 budding athletes took part on the run – bike – run challenge and had a great time. The Yorkshire weather even held despite the ever darkening skies! A big thanks to Aldi, Triangle, David Lloyd Clubs, Sun-Maid Raisens and Yorkshire Runner for supporting the event.
LBT Now has 3 fully qualified RLSS Open Water Lifeguards. Last Saturday they all qualified at the end of a 3 day course having learnt skills from advanced first aid to water rescue. Well done Fiona, Ann and Andrew.
At the club we are always trying to help our members improve. We’ve identified more and more members who need some pointers as they start to learn the basics of swimming front crawl. Whilst we cannot teach our members how to swim (this is a specialist role and we have coaches within the club who can offer this service) those that can just about manage 200m will benefit from our newly introduced sessions dedicated just for them. They will be at 8:15 after the main set on Wednesday night at the Chippendale pool, and lane 1 of the Grammar School session, 7-8pm on Friday nights. Of course all our sessions are still offer something for everyone and we still have our Wednesday morning 1hr and 30 minute session for our ‘fast’ members at the John Charles Centre for Sport. Swimmers here must be able to complete 400m in under 8 minutes.
